Getting Factor

Binary packages are the recommended way to use Factor for new users and casual dabblers. If you intend to track Factor development or contribute to Factor itself, you should build from source instead.

Binaries are built automatically by a set of build servers monitor the Factor repository for changes. Binaries are only uploaded if the source builds and all tests pass. If you wish to be notified of build server activity, subscribe to the Factor-builds mailing list.

Requirements

Minimum supported operating system versions:

  • Windows XP (also tested on Vista)
  • Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
  • Linux 2.6.16
  • FreeBSD 7.0
  • NetBSD 4.0
  • OpenBSD 4.2

Minimum processor requirements for 32-bit x86:

  • Linux and Windows: Pentium 4 or above (SSE2 required)

Note that 32-bit Athlon XP processors do not support SSE2 and thus Linux and Windows users who have that CPU model should build Factor from source instead.
